Recently, I started a new playlist on Spotify focused on 1982 — the 100th year of our house.
With songs like Total Eclipse of the Heart and Gardening at Night — both recorded in 1982, I thought it fitting to publish this playlist now just a couple of days before the big 2024 Total Eclipse.
1982 was a rough year for the world, but somehow, the music that year was great. It was the year of the Falklands War and the Lebanon War, the death of Princess Grace of Monaco, and the attempted stabbing of Pope John Paul, II. It was also the year Chariots of Fire won Best Picture at the Academy Awards and E.T.: The Extra Terrestrial was released in movie theaters. It was the year of the first computer virus and the year The Computer was named Man of the Year by Time magazine.
1982 was quite different from 1882. It’s amazing to realize the changes just by hearing the music of the two years.
